Maine, Richard Viscompte of (b. , d. AFT. 1194)
Note: Notes
Per Weis' "Ancestral Roots" (98:26), he was Viscount of Maine, Seigneur of Beaumont-le-Vicompte, Fresnay and Ste.-Suzanne.
Cockayne's "Complete Peerage" (Roger de Toeni IV) agrees. He apparantly inherited the manor of Ailrichescot (South Tawton) in Devon from his father and passed it on to his daughter, Constance.
Note: Notes
Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Leicester, pp.521-522). Seigneur of Vieilles and Pont-Audemer in Normandy. He was one of the followers of DUKE ROBERT I OF NORMANDY (RIN 1323) and in ducal charters he appears as a witness among the great lords of Normandy. He is said to have become a monk shortly before his death.
Note: Notes
Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Leicester, p.521, note f). Robert de Torigni calls her Aubree de la Haie without citing any evidence thereof, but the fact that the abbey of St. Leger-de-Preaux [where her husband, HUMPHREY, retired to become a monk] was patron of La Haie-Aubree, arrond. Pont-Audemer, makes it possible that she was connected with that place.
Note: Notes
Cokayne's "Complete Peerage" (Leicester, p.521). Seigneur of
Pont-Audemer in Normandy. According to the Continuator of William of Jumieges, book viii, c.37, Thorold was the son of a certain Torf, but this source is so full of errors, that Thorold must be considered the earliest authenticated ancestor of this line.
Note: Notes
That she was GUNNORA's sister, THOROLD's wife, and HUMPHREY's mother is convincingly proposed in the article "The Sisters and nieces of Gunnor, Duchess of Normandy" in "The Genealogist, New Series" v37 (1920-21). pp 57-65 and 128-132.
Note: Notes
Per Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (250:18), she was dau. perhaps of FULK I, COUNT OF ANJOU (RIN 1250).
Stuart's "Royalty for Commoners" (109:36) calls her probably a daughter of FULK I (RIN 1250).
Turton's "Plantagenet Ancestry" calls her Eve, daughter of Landri, Count of Dreux.
Note: Notes
Per Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (250:17): "Count of Ostrevant and Amiens, and of Valois, and the Vexin, d.936 (his mother was a Heliwich, very doubtful if identical with No.16 [i.e. Helwise, d.895, dau. of EBERHARD, MARGRAVE OF FRIULI (RIN 1441) and wife of Hucbold, Count of Osrevant].); m. ELDEGARDE, (dau, or niece of Ermenfroi, Count of Amiens ?, prob. a Carolingian princess), who m. (2) Waleran, a count who has been misidentified as father of No. 18 [i.e. WALTER I]"
A lengthy footnote following Weis' line # 250 explains in detail the combination of things which must be proven as true for Raoul to be the grandson of EBERHARD MARGRAVE OF FRIULI (RIN 1441). To date, this proof seems highly unlikely.
The same footnote states that "David K. Kelly, from his studies (soon to be published) thinks it more likely that Raoul's father was COUNT THEODORIC, prob. of Valois, Vexin, pos. of Amiens, who was of the male line of CHILDEBRAND (RIN 1244), germanus of KARL MARTEL (RIN 2451). COUNT THEODORIC, the Nibelung [I think the same as my RIN 1240] DID have a son, Count Radulph, prob. of Valois, who could well be this Raoul."
Note: Notes
Per Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." (250:17): she was dau, or niece of
Ermenfroi, Count of Amiens ?, prob. a Carolingian princess), who m. (2) Waleran, a count who has been misidentified as father of No. 18 [i.e. WALTER I].
The note at the end of line #250 states, "The identification of the
parentage of Eldegarde, wife of RAOUL, as dau. or niece of Erminfrid (Erminfroi) rests on WALTER's statement that he was his heir. However, it is equally possible that Erminfrid was RAOUL's brother."
Note: Notes
Weis' "Ancestral Roots. . ." in the note following line #250 tells us that it is certain that she was RAOUL's mother. and that she m. (2) Waleran Count of Laon. She has been identified as Helwise, a dau. of EBERHARD, MARGRAVE OF FRIULI (RIN 1441), who first married Hucbold, Count of Osrevant (RIN 6823*), but this now seems unlikely. If true, this would make Hucbold the father of Heiliwich's son, RAOUL.

T.N. Bisson's, "The Mediaval Crown of Aragon", chart on page 198. He ruled from 947 to 992.
Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (54:35) says he was a vassal of the Emirs of Cordova. (195:36) calls him Count of Barcelona.
Todd A. Farmerie reviews the article "Autour de Roger de Vieux: les alliances matrimoniales des comtes de Carcassonne" from the Annales du Midi, 108:165-187, by Thierry Stasser in a 16 July 1998 posting to GEN-MEDIEVAL (subject: Carcassonne (Toulouse and Rouergue)). Farmerie
thinks this is the best work done to date with these families. Per Farmerie, Stasser's article verifies this generation.
Note: Notes
Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (54:36), calls her Adelaide, but . . .

thinks this is the best work done to date with these families. Per Farmerie, Stasser's article identifies her given name as Richilde and names her as wife of SUNYER, mother of BORRELL and dau. of ERMENGAUD and ADELAIDE.
Note: Notes
Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (54:37) & (347:38) calls her the daughter of BALDWIN I, COUNT OF FLANDERS (RIN 2175), but Todd Farmerie, one of the modern scholars most familiar with medieval Iberian genealogy, doubts that this is the case.

Per Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (54:38) & (284:39), Count of Barcelona & Urgel, etc.

Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (54:39), (284:40) & (291:40), calls him Count of Carcassonne and a Goth.
Note: Notes
Stuart's "Royalty For Commoners" (326:33), notes that her parentage is disputed, but that she seems most probably to be the daughter of Garcia Sanchez, Count of Gascony. See also (195:36). This is the same man as GARCIA V, KING OF NAVARRE (RIN 2410).
Allstrom's, "The Dictionary of Royal Lineage" (Vicompts of Narbonne), identifies her as the dau. of Odon Vicompte of Narbonne (RIN 3610*) & Richelde and wife of RAYMOND III PONS, COUNT OF TOULOUSE. See the next note for a comment on this possibility.
Odon, Vicompte of Narbonne died in 933; Richildis' will was probated on13 May 962; her will specifically named a countess Garsenda as an executor along with Matfred and Adalais, viscounts of Narbonne. This would be unthinkable if Garsenda were not her daughter, and it is quite obvious that the only countess Garsenda it could have been was Garsenda
of Toulouse. However. . .
